            What are Mosquitoes?
Mosquitoes are actually a type of fly and are characterized by their thin bodies and wings as well as their long legs.  Of the many mosquito species, the Asian Tiger is the most common species in our region.  They are shades of brown and black and generally have paler bands on their bodies and legs.  Size varies but an adult may reach about ½ inch in length.  Only female mosquitoes are known to bite and will take a blood meal from humans and animals in order to develop her eggs.

            Why do I have them?
Generally mosquitoes are a problem if you have standing water on your property.  Female mosquitoes lay their eggs on or near standing water which includes clogged gutters or drainage ditches as well as bird baths and tree cavities.  Any where that rainwater may collect is an ideal mosquito breeding site.

            Are they dangerous?
Mosquito bites produce varied reactions including redness, itching and discomfort. They also may transmit serious disease and illness to humans, domestic animals and wildlife. Mosquitoes are known transmitters of the West Nile virus. Mosquitoes can also cause Canine Heartworm in pets.

How do you get rid of Mosquitoes?
Reducing the mosquito population on your property is a frustrating and overwhelming task.  That’s why our mosquito services include the necessary treatment to get rid of mosquitoes before your next outdoor event.

            Can I do it myself?
Due to the complexity of treatment, mosquitoes are generally not a pest many people have success in eradicating. Beware when purchasing pesticides and other products online as many are not effective. Pesticides can be harmful to people and pets if they are misused or mixed improperly.

            Is the treatment safe?
Home Check follows very strict guidelines for the use of pest control products so that they pose no hazard to people, pets or plants. Every product we use has been checked and registered by the EPA and our highly trained service technicians will inform you of any safety measures that need to be taken.

How can I prevent this in the future?
